This presentation is a quick review of technologies – devices, procedures and programs – that ECRI Institute has been monitoring that have the potential to impact patient care and healthcare operations. Such as like acuity-adaptable design, virtual reality uses in controlling pain, and an insertable cardiac monitor. We will discuss why healthcare leaders need to be ready to address these challenges in the technology assessment and planning processes.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn about emerging technologies that might affect patient care and operations
  2. Review what to do to prepare for these challenges
  3. Discuss plans on what your healthcare system can do to prepare for these technologies, if appropriate for your patients

Rob Maliff has been assisting healthcare organizations with capital, strategic, and safety initiatives for more than 25 years, first with the healthcare system of the U.S. Department of Defense, and now as a Director at ECRI. He leads efforts with hospitals in programs such as clinical alarms, patient safety, value analysis and capital planning, healthcare construction and renovation projects, and equipment management programs. Recently, he has assisted a nationwide health system in addressing and improving its management of cardiac alarms; he has coordinated capital request reviews for millions of dollars of medical equipment; and he has reorganized clinical and support departments to increase patient safety, improve operations and reduce costs.

He has an MBA in Health Administration from Temple University and a Bachelors in the Science of Engineering from Duke University. He is an active member of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the American College of Clinical Engineering.

This spring SEPAC will be holding a raffle for an all-expense paid trip to National AHRMM. To be entered into the raffle, simply register a colleague and make sure they attend the April event for their first meeting. Any SEPAC member in good standing, who is also a member of National AHRMM and whose organization will not fund their attendance at the Annual National AHRMM Meeting is eligible. This represents a $2200 value!
