Medical Director of Supply Chain: who, what, and why?

Integrating the clinical and financial aspects of devices and equipment is an essential function of healthcare supply chain and value analysis groups, especially in today’s difficult financial environment. How exactly different organizations achieve that integration differs though.  A Medical Director of Supply Chain is one such way, but not all health systems have a specific role dedicated to both clinical and financial concerns.

In this presentation a dynamic Medical Director of Supply Chain will cover the origin of the position, describe the role in practice, and why it is needed.

Learning Objectives:

  • 1.      Describe the role and benefits of a Medical Director of Supply Chain
  • 2.      Understand why the role is needed within a healthcare supply chain department
  • 3.      Discuss how the objectives of the position are carried out within supply chain departments that do not have a Medical Director of Supply Chain
