Anyone who works in health care, either as a provider, vendor or payer is very much aware that things are changing and that all parties have to do more with less.  Vendors are being asked to cut costs without the commitment that they will earn additional business.  Providers pay more to care for their patients without an increase in reimbursement while payers are being bombarded with requests to cover new technologies in the absence of proven evidence and minimal demand.

Despite success in drastic cost cutting, hospitals still find themselves operating on slim margins.   This has had an even greater negative impact on the healthcare industry as those margins have led to reductions in capital investment, cuts to technology and sometimes reductions in workforce.

But, to survive, we must understand that cost is only one factor.  To fix our broken industry we need to understand what other factors are at play.

SEPAC has assembled a group of diverse panelists to provide a greater understanding of ALL the contributing fiscal factors that influence a health care provider’s bottom line.

  • Peter L. DeAngelis, Jr., CPA, MBA, FHFMA, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer from Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health
  • Eugean Jiwanmall MPH, MBA, Senior Research Analyst - Technology Evaluation & Medical Policy from Independence Blue Cross
  • Brandon Klar, MHSA, Vice President with GE Healthcare Camden Group

Together, we will gain a broader understanding of key financial factors and share industry changes both short and long term.

This spring SEPAC will be holding a raffle for an all-expense paid trip to National AHRMM. To be entered into the raffle, simply register a colleague and have them attend the panel discussion for their first meeting. Any SEPAC member in good standing, who is also a member of National AHRMM and whose organization will not fund their attendance at the Annual National AHRMM Meeting is eligible.  This represents a $2200 value!

Learning Objectives

  • Identify factors, other than cost, that contribute to a health systems slim margin
  • Identify new legislation and changes to reimbursement that impact the industry
  • Understand what criteria is used by payers to decide coverage and how that is either aligned or misaligned with how health systems chose their products
